Also, notice how in this scene Sherlock doesn’t even acknowledge what John said, like hes trying to pretend that it is a date.  Sherlock wants people to think they’re on a date.  He doesn’t object to the candle either.  Either of them could have easily moved it to another table or blow it out, but they didn’t.  They want to know what it feels like to be on a date.  They want to be with each other.
